Position Announcement: RRA Executive Officer

Call for Executive Officer Applications

Individual applications are invited for the position of Executive Officer of the Religious Research Association. The Executive Office oversees the organizational work of RRA, seeing that it goes on and goes well.

Executive Officer’s Role: The Executive Officer works with the President, Treasurer, Committee Chairs, and Business Manager to support them and to help them know what to do and when to do it. The Executive Officer also oversees communication channels with RRA members and the public at large. The Executive Officer is NOT responsible for finding and making site arrangements for the annual meeting (the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion does that), nor for investing RRA assets (the RRA Treasurer is responsible for this).

Time Requirements: The position of Executive Officer involves approximately 10-15 hours per month, although the work is not equally spread throughout the calendar year. Late spring and mid fall are busy times for the Executive Officer, coinciding with Association elections, distribution of grants, and the annual meeting. Current stipend for the Executive Officer is $10,000 per year.

Selection Process: (1) Applications will be reviewed beginning March 1 by the Search Committee, which consists of the outgoing Executive Officer and the present and past Presidents of the Association. The review of applications will continue until the position is filled. (2) Top candidates will be invited to interview with the Search Committee. (3) The committee will submit a ranked list of candidates to the Religious Research Association Board of Directors. (4) The Board will vote to select a new Executive Officer. (5) RRA President Melinda Denton will notify the selected candidate. (6) The incoming Executive Officer will work with the outgoing Executive Officer from July 1 to December 31 to ensure a smooth transition. (7) The new Executive Officer will begin his/her term on January 1, 2022.

Applications: The applications should include the following:

(1) Vision Statement: Set forth your goals and plans for RRA. This may include an assessment of the current strengths, weaknesses, or gaps that you plan to address and how you will carry out your plan (suggested 2-3 pages).

(2) Background Information: Describe the qualifications that support your application, including established record of scholarship, affiliation(s) and evidence of organizational skill and experience in intellectual leadership. In addition, address the feasibility of serving as Executive Officer in light of your current occupational responsibilities (suggested 2-3 pages).

(3) Curriculum Vitae: Provide your full curriculum vitae.
